Here is our video of audience response. Here we got a class of students to watch our clip, and then asked them questions about it and filmed their responses.

Here is our final video that we created for our Media Studies coursework. This is the opening for a film called 'The Runaway'. We have worked on this throughout the weeks of we have had to complete it, and this is the final result.

Last Day: Finishing Our Film

It is our last day for our practical work today and our opening sequence is completed.
We have added titles into the sequence to make it look more realistic, We have used DNA flims as our film company, because they are British and our film is British. We have other title such as; Directed By Steve McQueen who is a very well-known director therefor an audience will take our film more seriously.

Music has played a big part in our filming process as Joe and Alex have created it from scratch. It has been a long process but today we finally had it ready to fit in with the clip. We had to make sure that the music fitted in with different scenes of the clip therefor we shortened and added extras to particular parts of the sequence so it was in time with the music.

At the end of the sequence a title appears 'Birmingham, 19th September 2001' This reveals to the audience that the story will go back in time, to show what happened to the girl before she left, this added to the music, creating suspense.

We believe that we have a created an opening sequence that will hook in our target audience. We believe this because it is based around a teenage dilema that some teenagers may relate to in ways such as being in the same situation or knowing someone in the same situation. We believe that our clip is effective because of everything we have used such as filming techniques, editing , music and mise en scene.

Location

We have shot our opening sequence in various location the main location is the woods at corporation park, we chose this location for the running away scenes becuase we though it would help to create a more eiry and lonely effect to the sequence. It also help to create tension becuase most shot for filmed from behind trees and bushes, to give the perception that she is being followed. The flash back scene were filmed at my house, we filmed the violent scene in a dark doorway, to help adapt the sense of darkness to the opening sequence because it would not look right if a violent scene was filmed in a well lit area.

after filming all the shots form the story board, we have put them all together and decided that we need a few opening shots to convey the girl packing her bag, getting ready to run away, these will be quick fade in fade out clips so the audience no immediately that she is running away. I will upload this section of the story board in a few days.

Music demo 24/5/09

For our sequence, we decided to record an original soundtrack by our selfs. The recording was recorded throughout the week by Alex and Joe and is entitled 'Running...' to match the video. The style of the music is an instrumental featuring many instruments such as guitars, pianos, drums and strings in order to give a harsh sound. We used Logic Pro Studio software on Apple iMac to record. This is the outcome of a rough edit demo:

Today we have been to college to film the rest of our opening sequence, we have now got all the shots we need and are ready to start enditing on monday. I have up loaded half of the stroyboard, but my computer is being slow so i will attempt to do it later. I am happy with what we have filmed today and feel we are on task

Opening sequence

after re-thinking our film idea, we decided it was a little boring and the opening sequence may not catch the audiences attention as much as we thought, therefore we have decided to add more of a horror element to it. Therefore we have decided that the girl running away from home, will also be being followed by a man, the opening sequence will still show her running through the forrest but some shots will convey that she is being watched rather than the camera just following what she is doing, adding more enigmas to it, for example; who is watching/following her?

We will be using diegetic sound such as; heavy breathing and our non-diegetic sound  will be quite slow, but then will speed up to create tension.

Questionaire

looking at the questionnaire we can see that we have chosen the right target market for our film. Our film will be based around teen genre, which came out with the most people wanting it from the questionnaire. Teen films can also be classed as a hybrid, our film will be hybrid because it will be based around a teenager, but also cover genres such as relationships and a little bit of horror therefore a wider range of people from our target audience will be able to relate to it and enjoy it. If we were to create the entire film, it would probably rated as a 15, because it will include scene of a violent nature, bad language and drug abuse, although the opening sequence that we will filming will only last two minutes, therefore all these issues may not arise in the opening sequence. Our questionnaire conveys that more people would rather see a female as the protagonist rather than a male, therefore we have decided to use a female. casting the part of the female will not be a problem because we will be using someone from my drama group.

Preliminary task

Below is our preliminary task video:

 

For our preliminary task, we had to create a video that would contain the following content -

> Opening a door.

> Crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with which she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.

> The task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

We completed all of these tasks together as a group with Joseph working on cinematography and filming and Charlotte and Alex playing the characters in the video. We then all edited it together.

We feel that the video worked well as it was fun to do. The music used was used just to demonstrate how it would work with the music.

The things that we hoped had gone better was some of the editing of clips due to not having enough time to perfect the video.
